RECURRENT PREGNANCY LOSS
How Testing Works for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss?
These tests will tell if you have one of the most common, known genetic causes of recurrent pregnancy loss. These causes are often missed by a physical exam and standard laboratory tests.
Although it is somewhat more likely that miscarriages are caused by female factors, they can also be caused by male factors. Thus, both men and women are candidates for genetic testing.
Genetic tests for recurrent pregnancy loss are safe and clinically accurate. They are state-of-the-art, proven medical technology. Because genetic testing is a relatively new field, these tests may not be available at all OB/GYN offices and IVF clinics.
Women take tests that look for:
- Changes in two genes that cause blood clotting problems (factor V Leiden and prothrombin)
- Changes in chromosome structure or number
Men take a test that looks for:
- Changes in chromosome structure or number
For the chromosome analysis , a picture of your genes called a karyotype is created.
