What Is DNA Archive™ DNA Storage?

DNA Archive's DNA preservation technology is the first of its kind.

DNA Archive uses a technology called SampleMatrix™, which stabilizes DNA so that it can be stored safely at room temperature in your own home. When you’re ready to use the DNA, any lab can simply add a tiny amount of water to rehydrate the DNA for analysis.

Here's how DNA Archive™ preserves DNA:

  1. DNA is extracted from the cheek swab sample that you send to the lab.
  2. DNA is placed into a lab test tube and dried overnight in the DNA SampleMatrix, a synthetic medium that “shrink wraps” the DNA.
  3. DNA is sealed in lab-quality tubes and UV-resistant packaging for safe transport and stable storage.
This SampleMatrix™ technology, which is also used by research and clinical laboratories, is available exclusively to the public through DNA Archive™.
