Blood Clotting Disorders

If you or a close family member has ever had a dangerous blood clot or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), there is a strong chance that you carry the gene called factor V Leiden.

If so, you can take steps to protect against blood clots, pulmonary embolism, and other life-threatening health problems.

Genes and lifestyle risks – such as smoking, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, being overweight, and prolonged immobility – can combine to increase your risk of blood clots.
